Farmland Protection Workshop

  • William Harris Homestead 3536 State Highway 11 Monroe, GA, 30656 United States (map)

The USDA-NRCS in partnership with Oconee River Land Trust, American Farmland Trust, Athens Land Trust, Walton County Soil & Water Conservation District, and The Conservation Fund will host a Farmland Protection Workshop on August 9, 2022 at 4:30-6:30 p.m. Speakers will discuss details of the USDA Agricultural Conservation Easement Program and the Agricultural Land Easement Program, share tools of how to best protect farmland, share eligibility guidelines and a Q&A panel will be present.

Agricultural Land Easements protect the long-term viability of the nation’s food supply by preventing conversion of productive working lands to non-agricultural uses. Land protected by agricultural land easements provides additional public benefits, including environmental quality, historic preservation, wildlife habitat and protection of open space. Financial incentives include: state income tax, federal income tax, estate tax and property tax.

Vendors from other partnering organizations will be in attendance to provide  informational materials and answer any questions. Please contact Jennifer Standridge  no later than August 2nd to RSVP by either email or phone call. The flyer and agenda are attached to this email.
